Pioneer Electronics announces new Pure Drive Technology
Date: August 29, 2003
Demonstrating its commitment to the continued development of digital technologies, Pioneer Electronics' new picture processing technology for plasma display panels (PDP), the Pioneer PURE Drive creates a high definition, high quality plasma tv image from any source to deliver amazing brightness, pure contours and razor-sharp plasma screen pictures.
An exclusive Pioneer Electronics technology, the powerful PURE Drive is built into the new Pioneer PDP-5040HD and PDP-4340HD plasma tv models, offering advanced digital processing, noticeably increasing the plasma screen video quality from normal video signals, high definition tv (hdtv), PC signals and compressed formats, such as MPEG. Key features of the PURE Drive include:
Sharper plasma tv contrast
- Dynamic High Definition Converter
- The new converter changes interlaced PAL/SECAM/NTSC signals into
progressive XGA resolution pixel signals. To optimize one pixel,
this system scans the surrounding 84 pixels to create smoother,
sharper and clearer images, making Pioneer Electronics' new plasma
tv's ready to manage data for new high definition formats such as
hdtv, as well as existing standard definition sources - plasma
screen summary below:
- High quality interlaced-to-progressive conversion
- High quality scaling (resizing from standard video resolution to XGA panel resolution)
- Natural Enhancer
Conventional picture processing methods tend to enhance image outlines creating an unnatural reproduction of the detailed edge. Newly developed, the Natural Enhancer solves this issue by balancing the outline to create a sharp, correctly reproduced plasma tv image - Dynamic Range Expander (DRE)
Utilizing the original image's unused brightness histogram area, the DRE enhances the dynamic range to reproduce clearer, more vivid plasma screen pictures
Richer plasma tv colors
- Super CLEAR Drive:
Pioneer Electronics' advanced Super CLEAR Drive eliminates overly high reset discharges, eradicates false contours in poor gradation areas, intensifies contrast, improves shades of grey and purifies blackness. Pioneer has increased the number of grey tones that can be displayed on the plasma screen, thereby increasing the color capability to one billion colors - summary below:- 1024 step Grey Scale
- 1024 (Red) x 1024 (Green) x 1024 (Blue) = One billion colors
- Black tones are enhanced in the dark areas of the plasma screen picture so that every nuance can be seen, even in the shadows
Noise free plasma tv image
- Dual Noise Reduction (NR):
Pioneer Electronics' PURE Drive technology features both Digital and MPEG NR systems, to minimize picture noise efficiently for the highest quality plasma tv image. Dual NR provides the best possible picture and realistic plasma screen images in bad reception areas - summary below:- Digital NR controls errors in the original source effectively reducing noise and minimizing visible artifacts, faithfully reproducing the quality of the original image
- MPEG NR reduces mosquito noise typical to MPEG video images, an especially useful function when viewing digital satellite broadcasting (DVB) or DVD sources
Availability
