Mounting a wide-screen plasma tv

Date: August 3, 2004

There are plenty of ways to proudly display your new wide-screen plasma tv. Of course, as seen in all the commercials, you have the option of mounting it on a wall. If you do so, you’ll need a special bracket, which you may need to buy separately, and should get it professionally installed. Most wide-screen plasma tv retailers will be able to suggest a reputable installer in your neighborhood or else will install it for you when it arrives.

While thin, most wide-screen plasma tv’s are still heavy and must be properly anchored to the wall to avoid falling off and becoming damaged (yikes!). In addition, consider running wires through the wall if possible (not possible for concrete or stone walls). This will provide cleaner lines and avoids clutter—unlike a conventional television, you can’t exactly hide all the wires behind the plasma television!

Instead of mounting your wide-screen plasma tv on the wall, you can choose to have it sit neatly on top of a matching stand. Many manufacturers such as Sony, Panasonic and Pioneer offer stands that are made of and/or match the materials used to make the plasma television. A particularly neat plasma tv stand is a one made of all glass by Sony for their XBR models which make the plasma screen appear as if floating on air.
