How to watch the Olympics in high definition tv
Date: August 6, 2004
If you can’t go to Athens this year to watch the Olympics in person, the next best thing is to watch it in high definition television. Crystal-clear television broadcasts in high definition will make you think you are sitting right there at ringside, trackside, poolside or fieldside.
NBC, the official station for the Olympics in the United States, will broadcast 399 hours of HD programming via seven outlets including cable’s USA, CNBC and Bravo. With 124 hdtv affiliates and almost country-wide coverage, most consumers in the US will be able to view the programming through an hdtv antenna or hdtv cable signal. NBC coverage will include six sports—swimming, diving, gymnastics, track and field, medal rounds of basketball and men’s soccer gold medal final.
Of course, you’ll need a television that is capable of receiving broadcasts in high definition as well. Most plasma, lcd, dlp and rear-projection televisions are either high-definition or hd-ready. If its an hd-ready version that you have, you’ll need a hdtv receiver or antenna before you can watch the hdtv programming.
Also, to truly enjoy the programming, you’ll need to consider your audio options. A good hdtv system should always be coupled with a superior sound system. All high definition broadcasts are in Dolby Digital sound. Your sound options include in-wall mounted speakers, ceiling mounted speakers or upright speakers.
